In a quiet corner of Hawkshead village in the English Lake District, surrounded by majestic fells and forest, stands Ann Tysons Guest House. Our family run business offers comfortable hotel style bed and breakfast / self catering accommodation in the centre of the historic Lakeland village of Hawkshead.We are open all year round, fully welcome children and are pet friendly.

Ann Tysons Guesthouse, an historic Grade 2* listed lakeland cottage was originally owned by 'Ann Tyson'. It has been established as a bed and breakfast business since 1990. We offer a wide range of B&B accommodation, doubles with en-suite facilities, family rooms, plus cosy en-suite room for the solo traveller. For ease of access we are able to offer ground level bedrooms.This is ideal for those who find stairs a problem and also guests who wish to bring a dog. All rooms are en-suite with one exception, and this has private facilities. Colour TV and tea / coffee making facilities are in all rooms.

One of our rooms in the B&B features a beautiful anitque bed, purchased at an auction in 1933 from the estate of the art critic / writer John Ruskin (1819 - 1900), "Brantwood" Coniston.

William Wordsworth and Hawkshead

William Wordsworth lodged at 'Ann Tysons' whilst attending the Hawkshead Grammar School, 1779 - 1787. More recently the children's author Beatrix Potter has lived in the Hawkshead area at 'Hill Top' Nr Sawrey. Both are now commemorated with museums in the village.

The village of Hawkshead is a place of charm & character with an atmosphere that is timeless. Many people enjoy its whitewashed buildings, narrow streets, alleyways, quaint corners and cobbled streets.

Hawkshead was once an important market town for wool until the industries decline in the early 19th century. It's now a popular holiday / vacation destination with visitors to the Lake District. This is due to the atmosphere of warmth and friendliness which is apparent from the moment you arrive in Hawkshead.

Within easy reach of Ann Tysons B & B ( Hawkshead ) are the honeypot towns of Ambleside, Coniston, Windermere, Bowness on Windermere, Grasmere, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale and Keswick plus the many attractions, historic houses and castles. As well as this there are an abundance of lakes, tarns and mountains to explore.

Evening entertainment can be found in the inns / hotels / pubs in Hawkshead. All have oak beams and open fires and are located within Hawkshead village. They all offer restaurant style dining, a selection of good bar meals, fine wines and beers brewed by the local award winning micro-breweries.

Together with local bus services and an excellent network of footpaths and bridleways, the Lake District National Park provides a multitude of memorable walking / hiking and cycling trips in wonderful countryside.

Posing as a source of peace and serenity, the lakes have provided inspiration for countless literacy and artistic endeavours. The likes of William Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter, Monet and Constable have all taken something special from this beautiful environment. For the thrill seekers there are numerous challenging water sports and rock climbing activities. Lake Windermere, England's largest lake is a haven for water sports enthusiasts and can be found within the attractive Lake District National Park, this being the largest National Park in England and Wales.

With sixteen lakes in a protected area, The Lake District National Park encompasses an abundance of nature and wildlife, beautiful landscapes and scenic views. Many people choose to visit the region because it offers a peaceful break in a tranquil setting.

The open spaces allow an opportunity to explore a secluded area without feeling restrained or restricted. With over 100 Sites of Special Scientific Interest the area is of enormous conservation interest.

Cumbria and the Lake District has many historical links with Scotland, and the area boasts numerous mysterious rock formations, Roman forts, mining museums and cultural links, which recount the history of this popular region.

Hadrian's Wall, the famous defence structure built by the Romans over 2,000 years ago, stretches from Carlisle to Newcastle. The remains of this wonder have been given World Heritage site status and can still be explored, depicting historic tales of conflict between England and Scotland.
